The Behavioural School

The school emerged because the managers found the classical school did not achieve complete production efficiency and work harmony.This group of management scientists kown as behavioural scientists questioned the classical theorists emphasis on individual's rational pursuit of economic objectives.
Behavioural scientists seek to gain a comprehension of
1. Why people behave the way they do
2. how thier behaviour is affected by their environment and surroundings
3. how people behave individuallY and collectively in organisation.
    It is divided into
a: The human relations Approach
b: The behavioural science approach




                            The Human Relations Approach
This approach was stimulated by the hawthorne studies of (1972-1932).The human relations approach accepted the major premises of the classical school,but however was modified because they felt the difference in individual behaviour and influence of work group s upon the individuals.
           Highlights
1. They laid more emphasis on the concept that man is a social,which replaced the concept of rational man
2. The individual's output is influenced by the workgroup,which means that the standard for each member of the work group is set asid by the social standards of the work group
3. That no relationship exists between productivity and intelligence.


                   
                             Behavioural science Approach
Behavioural science approach is defined as the study of observable and verifiable human behaviour in organisations using scientific procedures.It used concepts such as psychology,sociology and anthropology to study human interactions in work environment

     Highlights
1. The importance of people in an organisation
2.Good leadership abilities
3.Emphasis on employee participation in matters affecting them.
